Arunima Sharma
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master’s degree in Integral Counselling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of British Columbia.
I have additional training in Hakomi, Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). My counselling approach is mindfulness-based, humanistic, body-focused and relational. I blend various modalities into a unique alchemy based on the needs and goals of each client.
Over the last 6 years, I have worked with individuals, couples and families struggling with issues including: anxiety, depression, addictions, eating disorders, trauma, grief, concerns around intimacy and sexuality, and those embarking on existential inquiry.
In my relationship work, I help couples bridge the widening distance that gets created due to unresolved conflict and misunderstandings. In addition to improving communication between partners, couples counselling facilitates discovery and understanding of intrapersonal and interpersonal aspects that help partners connect more deeply and meaningfully.
I have worked in various community settings, universities, private practice, and health and wellness clinics across Canada, USA, India, Middle East, and China. My clients are from all walks of life and represent a wide range of diversity in race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. I have learned how people all over the globe aspire for similar things in life. While we may speak different languages, there is universality in our human needs, aspirations and longings.
As an immigrant and global citizen, I intimately understand the struggles of belonging, acculturation, the sense of separation, and resulting feelings of loss, anxiety and social isolation. I understand how these struggles can be the source of much inner turmoil and family conflict. Using a systems, multi-cultural, and transpersonal approach, I help people discover their truth. In the process, clients feel more resilient, resourceful, independent, connected with themselves and others.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I was engaged in community development for over 10 years working on international projects engaging thousands of people worldwide. In my journeys, I have learned how people all over the globe aspire for similar things in life. While we may speak different languages, there is universality in our human needs, aspirations and longings.
