Monique Wong holds a Master’s degree in Trauma Psychology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has counselled clients in both Asia and Canada for many years, in the ares of: life transitions, stress management, anxiety and panic, career and academic exploration, parenting, grief and loss, relationships and self care. She is committed to helping clients get unstuck from their patterns and get moving in a positive direction in all facets of their lives.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Simon Fraser University, as well as a Master’s degree in Trauma Psychology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
I have additional training in Somatic Experiencing (SE), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Self-Compassion, Narrative Career Exploration, and Play Therapy. My counselling approach is grounded in somatic, narrative and existential theories. I also draw on a variety of therapeutic modalities in order to support my clients’ needs and goals.
Having the opportunity to work and live in both Canada and Asia as a counsellor, I have had the opportunity to support many individuals in their journey dealing with life transition and adjustment, traumatic event experience, stress management, anxiety and panic, career and academic exploration and planning, grief and loss, parental support, relationships, and self-care. My interest in counselling continues to grow through my work with children (living with and without special needs), youth, students, families and adults, including individuals who identified themselves as LGBTQ2+.
I believe human connection is the basic ingredient for healing and my presence and my additional languages in cantonese and mandarin can facilitate that in the therapeutic setting.
We all have unique coping mechanisms to deal with the issues in our lives. When these strategies serve us well, that’s great! When they do not, I would help you explore other ways to deal with them. I believe alternatives are always possible, and sometimes it can be challenging to find them on our own, and we feel stuck. When this happens, counselling can be very helpful to get us moving again, and work through the patterns and issues that are keeping us stuck.
In our collaborative process, you will be invited to:
- engage in an intentional, courageous and compassionate act for change
- experience your body and mind connection in a different way
- build a healthier relationship within yourself and with others
- expand the coping strategies in your toolbox to manage your stress, anxiety and overall well-being
- connect your strengths, passions and interests to create a new chapter in your life’s journey
I look forward to working with you!
