Susan Higgs
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and a Canadian Certified Counsellor with a Master of Counselling Psychology from Adler University. I also hold a Bachelor of Commerce with a Major in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management from the University of Victoria.
I provide counselling to individuals in all stages of adulthood who find themselves having difficulty navigating life transitions or experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship issues and parenting challenges.
As a working mother who returned to graduate school as an adult learner, I understand the challenges of balancing parenting, career and a personal life. I also know firsthand the stresses faced by parents of children with chronic illnesses, as well as of those who provide care for aging parents.
My style is warm, attentive and collaborative. I use a strength-based and action-oriented approach to counselling, with a holistic focus on the therapeutic relationship. Depending on what is best suited to each client, I draw on elements of various modalities including solution-focused, cognitive behavioural, narrative, emotion-focused and mindfulness. I am passionate about helping clients identify and utilize their strengths, deepen their self-awareness, achieve their goals and have more meaningful and productive lives.
